Survival Of The Fittest

Business Trends — 12:32 pm

We’ve been looking long and hard at the value proposition offered by bespoke software development. Particularly in tough economic times, why should anyone choose to spend significant amounts of money on software to run their business?

I think the answer changes depending on the health of your business.

If you have found yourselves in hard-times, where sales are down and you need to cut costs, maybe you’re even look at shedding staff; cutting your IT costs may be completely wrong.

Consider the situation where you pay people to carry out repetitive predictable tasks day-in and day-out. These people are costing you money every year and the situation will never get better because it’s not being addressed. Many businesses are not just looking at reducing costs in the short-term but making their operations lean and agile ready for the inevitable economic upturn.

This is just the area where better software can do the job more efficiently and effectively. You can then choose to reduce staff or deploy them better to make more money, but in either case your business will be more efficient doing more with less people. And your overall costs will be lower because you only pay once for software, not year after year.

You may be surviving well in the recession. In that case there’s never been a better time to position yourself for the increased opportunities that will come after it’s all over. There’ll be less businesses competing for more work when the upturn comes. Software can not only improve your efficiency. It can help you adapt your business to turn your hand to different services. It can help you structure your workflows to be scalable to be able to handle more without more costs.

And regardless of your business health, you can create real business advantage by introducing innovative elements to your service that only come when you define the functions you need in software and build it to suit your business style. Make your IT a selling point when you go for new business.

Having a discussion with a like-minded software development company will cost you nothing. What have you got to lose …. except your business?
