Protecting The Good Name Of Triangle

News — 11:46 am

What’s in a name? Well, quite a lot actually if your name is Triangle.

We sometimes get confused with the Triangle Shopping centre in Manchester – Not really a problem I agree. But it’s been widely reported recently that since Southampton based IBM reseller Triangle posted a loss of £1m on £27m turnover they have embarked on some sort of restructuring program.

There are even rumours that their competitors are circling and trying to pick off valued members of Triangle’s staff.

They are operating in the IT arena so this is a potential problem for us even though we are not connected in any way.

I have had one supplier and one customer call me up in the last week to make sure we are OK. Now, I know that it only takes a little reassurance to calm things down and that they didn’t really think it was us (perhaps given that their turnover is many times ours!), but it did lodge a niggle in the back of my mind; What if others are thinking it’s us and not asking? I did see one hit on our website analytics from a company who googled “Triangle going out of business” and somehow found their way to us!

It has emphasised the need for us to promote ourselves and our brand more than ever. If people are aware that we are independent then just the location will be enough to quell rumours. If people know that we are not IBM resellers, but Microsoft certified software developers in our own right then the confusion would be no greater than that with the shopping centre.

And when we do hit the heady heights of £27 million turnover I hope that the level of profit we are making on that also separates us from our namesakes, in a positive way.
